Are YOU Transformation Ready?
What a strange question, but yes, I want to know if YOU (yes, you!) are transformation ready?
As a web designer, I’ve worked hard to know and understand the latest design trends (and mistakes!) that can make or break your website. I keep up-to-date on the latest in search engine optimization practices (SEO best practices), as well as perfecting the art of good design. So here’s a little self-test to see if you’re ready to jump into this transformation process with me.
You might not be transformation ready if ….
1. You’ve “dabbled” in some web design and “know how it works.”
Web design is a constantly changing field and what was considered good design (or good for search engine optimization) last year, may not be true this year. And if you haven’t “dabbled” in web design for longer than that, then you may be in for a big surprise. Transformation ready clients are willing to trust me with the design of their website. This isn’t to say that you won’t be a part of the creative process (you absolutely will!) but there may be times when I veto an idea.
2. You’ve procrastinated on hiring a designer and are now “under the gun” to get something up there fast!
Good design takes time, and cannot be thrown together last minute. You’ll just be wasting your money, and I’ll be wasting my time trying to turnout a design quickly.
3. You don’t understand the value your website will bring to your business.
A website for your business is almost as valuable, if not more valuable, then having your brick and mortar business. Why is that? Because most potential customers will want to check you out online before taking the time to drive your business. Many business owners have no problem putting down time and investment into a bricks and mortar location because they know the value in doing so … and your website is no different.
4. You want premium features but have a small budget.
I understand having a tight budget, especially when you’re just starting out. I certainly work with those businesses who need something more basic that they can grow into later. But perhaps you’re someone who wants a lot of animation, interactive features, eCommerce, etc., but want to just a few hundred dollars. This is an unrealistic expectation. I work hard to give a high value product for your dollar, but let’s be honest – ANYONE can build it for less, but NOT anyone can give you a good design.
5. You just want a template filled in.
Maybe you’ve found a template online that you absolutely love and just don’t have the time to fill in the content. I do not do this. I build great custom websites that are tailored to the needs your business. I don’t use templates and I won’t take your template and fill it in. And the truth is that this would be impossible anyway. The demos you see of a template were created by designers and when you get the templates, it’s like getting a puzzle – the pieces are all there, but nothing is put together. So no, you’re not saving me any time, or you any money by asking me to fill in a template.
6. You think “the customer is always right.”
This is nice idea and works in some industries, but not in web design. Many people like design features that are bad for SEO or aren’t intuitive for the user. We’re not building a website for you, we’re building a website for you clients and customers. We can always discuss options for your design, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have the best ideas 😉
Who provides the content? (Images, text, etc).
Generally you will provide content, especially if you’re going for the budget options. I do provide copy-editing and copy writing at an extra charge, I can find high quality, free stock images if you don’t have good images. I can also provide limited photography services for a fee as well with signed contracts if your business is in the area. We can also opt for purchasing high quality stock images if need be. This all depends on the needs of your business and will be hashed out at your consultation.
How much do I charge?
This is such a complicated question. In your quest to find a web designer (and advice on how to choose one), you’re going to hear that some designers charge “by the hour,” some charge “by the package,” and some charge based on the end value produced. My goal is to get you the highest value product at a reasonable rate, and so I incorporate all three of these into my pricing strategy. If you’re on a budget, I offer a custom one-page website (like this one) with standard six sections (Home, About, Portfolio (products/services), Reviews, Contact, FAQs) starting at $850. Multi-page websites generally begin at $1600, but for a more exact quote you should contact me for a free consult.
